a hairdresser.

Spent the day thinking of ways to

express this notion through our fashion display.

Im glad i bought the beautiful paper that

brought out our pieces well

how good does the carnation look ???

Its amazing what flowers can simply do when you add it on to your display.

I would love to go crazy with the window one day & fill it up with flowers so Memoirs would look

like its in the middle of a spring bloom. Ill wait till Vanessa comes , as she's always so great at making our windows come alive.

I found that the perfect recipe with these two beautiful ladies who made my day

on the warm sunny afternoon.

Summer breeze is starting to make way again

met a lot of amazing customers.

Mostly new & many moving into the lovely neighbourhood of North Melbourne, Looks like soon

enough Errol street will turn into a little hot spot. As we can see with the pop ups of new stores all around the precinct.

which is turning out to be a must stop

Australian Tennis Open has arrived!!!

Here we get a chance to see a spectacle of colours

filling out those pleated skirts.

I remember a time when i was very fixated with a tennis skirt. I was 6, and all i remember was i came into a possession of a blue and white stripe lacoste skirt. Boy, was i excited. Sadly the skirt could not fill my tiny waist. So i waited & kept the skirt till i was in my teens. By then, i didn't even get a chance to wear it. All the years caught up & the skirt remained a treasure trove in my closet. The funny part is i never played tennis which could explained why the skirt didn't get used.

Well, i may not be a tennis buff but through the ages.

The tennis attire has certainly evolved.

Its shorter , more colourful

have some dynamics in it so world

renowned tennis players

flaunt & play in them.

Especially the William sisters.

It will be exciting to see what 2010's tennis fashion

brings us.

Dress to Wed in Malaysia

What are the rules to dressing to a wedding???

As, i took a few weeks off to return home. oh home, sweet home!

I forgotten the fun of dressing up for weddings.

Certainly, they are no rules at all for the occasion except dressing to the nines off course.

It was lovely to see colours!!! ranging from the rainbow, whether it was a woman or man. Everyone fell into the routine of looking good. I love tradition & i love that we can all embrace that in a wedding. It was great to be a part of my childhood friends wedding team, the citations/connection as the bride and groom become a unity, their marriage vows were spoken in a musical trance. Her beautiful beaded gown , catching stares from us all. She looked amazing, as every bride should look amazing!!

So, perhaps there are no rules to a wedding. I know for sure, it doesn't matter the culture/place. We all have the opportunity to be a part of it in the way we express ourselves on the day.

I cant wait to be there for all the wedding bells that seem to ring for the year 2010.

Designers can be inspired by many different things. Usually it is something they have seen. Maybe in the studio or at the book store or while waiting for a bus or sitting in a dentist's office. Inspiration can also come from a song or a situation or a great lunch. Whatever it is and wherever it comes from, it isn't inspiration until it triggers some kind of response and forces you to the drawing board. I have been surrounded by fashion victims basically all my life. My grandmother was a fashion designer/tailor. This is where my early ideas on fashion have derived from. When I began designing my first line of women’s clothing my inspirations had mainly come from many classy, sassy and classic clothing styles which have been around for decades. The idea for each season is to produce a collection of timeless clothing with classic cuts which will last a life time. When thinking about the colors and fabrics I should use, I decided to go with mainly Viscose / Elastane blends, Polyester / Viscose blends, silks and cotton Elastane blends. As these fabrics are flattering to the female body & most importantly comfortable. A designer should always think about the person who will use what they create. Although creating designs can be exciting and rewarding, it takes dedication and a great deal of hard work, especially when trying to break through such a competitive industry. However, when you see that first dress finished and more importantly see someone you don't even know wearing it around, all the effort is more than worth it. This is one of the best parts of being a designer. I am determined to be different from the norm. Designing and modeling my own clothes, I plan to bring a new era of fashion to the streets of Melbourne.

Seems like forever since the last update,
I'm back into enthusiastic spring fever despite the rather moody weather of today,
We manage to welcome many lovely customers during the day.

We have a lovely new comer in North Melbourne,
who has just moved from overseas,
Its good news that our display window caught her eye
&
she fell in love with the angora diamante black sweater top
teaming together with our diamante drop pearl brooch.
Just classic !

Next, is a student from up north Australia.
A lovely duo of mother & daughter who make their yearly
shopping trip whenever they can,
so happens that the winds
brought them to us
&
it was pleasant to be sharing
the experience with them.
Makes me miss my mum too!
Well, she got herself a berry coloured Mesop dress
that drapes over the front.
Great colour & will look great with tights or leggings.
The best part is you can wear it all
year long, it's light & it can be layered.

So, despite the weather that could torment your

Its all about being inspired by the new bloom that is coming to town,

Miss Vanessa and Miss Giana took this opportunity to spontaneously

whip up a mini- photo shoot of our gorgeous dresses,

We had so many lovely smiling customers this week,
despite the gloomy weather that has taken over
Melbourne.
We are also very happy that they were able to find
great individual pieces
for themselves.

The first photo , we have a customer who purchased an Army green short sleeve bat wing top
which has a wide neck and collar. It is a versatile
piece which cam be worn any time of the year.
Looks great with the casual wear she came in with
& fits her like a button.

Second photo, I could tell from when she came in.
She had an artistic flair about her and guess what? She is an artist.
who is having an art exhibition soon, Hopefully we will get her
details & you special readers out there can make a trip to see the paintings.
She was also determined to find a simple knit that would be
dressy yet casual for her dinner that day.
Surprisingly this simple knit turned out to be perfect top for
dinner outing. It has a nice relaxed fit with
very slight puff sleeves & lastly it's a stunning color.

They make shopping trips together,

shopping as an enjoyable activity.
Well, after debating over another floral wool jumper.
She was absolutely in love with this baby blue angora jumper
which has very interesting details on it.

In order to get some inspiration for Memoirs,
I decided to head down to my favorite suburb, Brunswick.
Im yet to bring Ness down here but I am hoping we will
get to do it in soon with one of her trips.
We never seem to have time.
Now, that Memoirs is in full swing.

Here each space echoes its own design identity,
Where a fruit market doesn't look like a typical store,
The flower shop is practically in full bloom with gorgeous colors,
Even the coffee shop looks more like a boutique.
I love every store i come across.
With that i am hoping that every passerby has the
same views in our special little boutique.

I cant believe we are already in June, That's halfway through
the year & So far, I still have a million things to do. Frankly, both Vanessa and I are loving every minute of this chaos. Firstly, we would like to Thank our customers for coming in regularly to support our little boutique . As well, as being a sport with modeling their lovely purchases.

Vanessa: It has definitely been a whirlwind year and we've barely just begun. With so much ambition for Memoirs and positive feedback thus far, we're going to take this baby far. Just a quick note on the inspirations for the display:

1) Desperately wanted to show off the grey/white leopard print and decided to use the leather jacket to emulate rock chic with style. With Giana's accessorizing, the look comes full circle, to rock chich diva!

2) The skirt caught my eye from the first browse through, just the thing one need to cheer up the dark winter day and give that "POP" effect. Offset the florals with a bright yet sensible ribbed sweater and we have and outfit that will take you through the day. This outfit is dedicated to the girls a with pear shaped figure.

3) The Orange Jacket is NEW to Memoirs and uber comfortable. Dress it up with a dark straight cut slacks and a muted silverish-bronzy top w/ neck detail and there u have an outfit made for work and play. It also scores on the warmth factor for winter.

The display is just to show one of the many ways a person can use bright colours without sticking out like a sore thumb-choose the main attraction of ur outfit, balance the rest of the outfit with muted colours and accesorize wisely! Step into Memoirs and BE INSPIRED! -VJ

Now, here's an individual who is not afraid to inject a little color into her wardrobe. What we have is a Vintage psychedelic dress which is very a ' Pucci ' like print from Japan. At first she was hesitant, but in the fun of dressing up . I showed her how to break down bold prints by accesorizing the dress with a scarf and belt.
Immediately, the dress is assessable for even a casual and day wear.
Plus, notice how the flat boots come into play for the finished look.

Vintage Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress

One of our lovely customers bought this rare piece which fits her like a glove.
Now, we know why her dresses are a fashion icon.
She just looks stunning!

A little story behind this famous dress:

Hey Peeps!

A little birdie told me that winter is finally here. And if ur wondering what i'm so chirpy about...well, what better reason is there to start shopping again for this winters hottest trends?

Here's a few things that are making it big for winter 08/09.

Purple: What better colour to brighten up our winter darks? Try to add a lil something purple from the lightest shade of lilac to the darkest shades of plum be it in accessories, a simple wool dress or a nice bright bag for that "POP" effect!

Orange: This surprisingly bright colour has made it to our list of must haves this winter too! Who'd have guess? However, for risk of looking like u missed Halloween celebrations DO NOT wear this with black, try pairing it with neutral colours like khaki, brown and grey.

Tartan and Checks: What was once left to the Scottish, has now made it on runways. The key to wearing checks in whatever shade is to keep it simple by wearing one amazing piece with classic colours like black and grey.

Fur: Be it fake or real, fur back this winter. Point to note: Memoirs is Animal friendly and we only do faux fur. Keep it classy by wearing one stunning piece that stands out from the outfit. Anymore, and you may risk looking like a poacher.

PVC: Big on Givenchy's Winter collection, PVC has made it to our must have this season. However, keep it strictly to one piece be it the boots for a 60's look or a nice bag in a bright colour.

Sequins: Women have a natural tendency to any kind of bling and what better way to show it off this winter then to be wearing something shiny? This season we're seeing sequinned berets, blingy bags and mini dresses paired with tights. But try not to overdo it, we don't want to look like a bad mistake from the 70's.

Preppy: This is a look that I'd suggest for the younger fashionably inclined. This look rocks for those who already have to wear uniforms! Taking a cue from Gossip Girl, we've seen numerous way a uniform can be made "cool". xoxo...

Puffa Jacket: This here is right up there with PVC, but who am I to say what works and doesn't. It take a gutsy person and a real nice jacket (preferably with a belt) to give a woman that ultra cool look. Team this with a short skirt and ankle boots for the slope bunny look.

Capes: are an elegant, ultra chic way to keep warm. Not for a casual look,

pair a cape with a pencil skirt, straight trousers or a short skirt. However, make sure the size of the cape is relevant to the outfit worn...we don't need to be drowning in our capes.

Well, message conveyed! I hope you've found these tips helpful. Of the above, I personally love Sequins and i've been gagging over anything purple recently. However, i've learnt the art of wearing Orange (it also happens to be my bf's fav colour) too and its a "cheer me up" colour. Something to brighten up the sombre winter days.

Personally i think that capes are fab! But puffa jackets don't sit well on me. PVC is ok in small doses and i've well passed my Preppy look days. Fur will always be a classic, but make it known that its FAUX fur! Unless u think the colour red sits well with u.

To be honest, you've just got to find your personal style and what works best for you and your body type. Be true to yourself and you can't go wrong. If in doubt, pop into Memoirs and my partner will gladly doll you up and send you catwalking out the door.

Today Melbourne is filled with beautiful clear blue skies,
Errol street is bustling with delicious breakky,
As for me i am longing for some good food at Hot Poppy's,
Besides that i am nestled warmly in my corner
with the heater on.

Everyone seems to be hunting for a coat these past few days,
I personally have started by equipping myself with lots of wool
& long skivvies.
Leggings/tights too are essential because they look great with boots.

Memoirs cant wait to get our winter campaign out
with unique coats & boots to dress this chilly weather.

We had a lovely customer today who got herself
a Gianfranco Ferre Black & White stripes Jacket.
It looks great with her cropped hair & her blue eyes.

Queens of looks

While i am sitting here in Memoirs, i had a little flashback
in the past with a playback of
my fashion diary and my group of friends.
Well, it mainly consisted of four.
Four girls to rule college in style.
Hahaha...like mean girls but we were actually
very sweet girls.
We dressed to the nine's despite KL's sweltering weather,
name it we all had adorned it.
But if you ask me whether i had any fashion regrets?
I would say non, because it really was a time
when we girls had fun with everything we wore.
Shirts, skirts, glitter, maxi dresses, pants, heels,
bags, flair, animal prints, fluro colours, wedges,
hats, sari's, jerseys,boots,mid drif, bareback, halter
the list continue's.
At the end of it all, we all bloomed into our own flower
and each represents a diverse language of styles.

It was so nice to get Doreen to be with me in the store today,
With regular customers catching up with her

new introductions for myself.
We had a colourful afternoon with some great
purchases made by our customers.

Shu Qing, spoiled herself with a D&G stiletto black heels.
It was obviously meant for her because no one
else could fit into it.
Second pair, Vintage black leather peeptoe with bow
which is meant to be worned with her 1920's look for a party tonight.
Both shoes, are versatile.
and goes perfect with her dainty feet.

We had another lovely customer, who got herself the Gold plated ring
with the blue stone. Another fashion piece inspired by the Art Deco era.
She came back for it , so again that ring was meant for her.
She also purchased some lovely gifts for best friend
for her birthday .
Well, looks like the Saturday is filled for a night of fun!

Inspired by the very colourful speckled robin's eggs we had for our customers this Easter.
The same colour palette was applied to our window display. We have the beautiful Elise dress
( sold unfortunately!) with strands of pearls , The floral cardigan ( Paul Smith ) & Blush pink ( Issey Miyake) dress complimented with a white ruffled top by ( Assasination of Ivy Stone) and a vintage belt to cinch in the waist. It's all in the range of pastel to celebrate the long weekend.

Black is back

Prior to the previous display that states black is back from Harmony's collection. We find that black will always be a staple piece in anyone's wadrobe.

Here we have. The 'boyfriend blazer' which is great for a casual or dressed up occasion. Plus, with the upcoming weather breeze thats hitting melbourne streets. This is the best way to look hot , hot hot without even trying.

Secondly, we have lovely miss Alice Wookey who found her perfect rendition of a classic black dress for her upcoming formal. Doesnt she look gorgeous?

Some Time and Several Countries Later...

Dear Fashionistas,

Its been awhile since my last post and several countries later, here i am in the comfort of my own home here, logging in my travels and giving you a peek of whats out there.

Lets start with my previous trip to Melbs and the adventures we had attending Our 1st Fashion Exposed and my first Melbourne Fashion week. Two very ambitious fashion crazy girls with a million ideas running through their heads not to mentioned being "let loose" amongst the many clothes and accesories was like a dream come through. That trip to Sydney was definitely the start of our many fashion travels.

My Partner in Crime...

Then we had the thrill of attending a show during Fashion Week! Ladies, it look like ruffles are making a comeback and feminine chic is the look to go for! Also, noticed quite a bit of black amongst the pastel palette. I loved the show and it brought back many fond memories of times past...*sigh*

Then back to jet setting again, all around the world trying to find the best in fashion and bringing it to your friendly North Melbourne store. We start off with Zurich, where is the weather was funny and we got some snow. Observed that colourful, patterned, boldly printed tights were in style for winter. I guess when ur all bundled up, and the only thing showing between ur winter jacket and boots/flats are ur knees/legs, the best fashion statement would be tights that communicate ur individuality. Having pre-ampted that, Memoirs has already got limited edition tights all from Italy.

Then it was off to Dubai, where shopping was the least fun. I had just missed the crazy sale season and shopping there was not cheap! But I was fortunate to be able to visit Mall of Emirates which used to be the biggest mall in Dubai, until Dubal Mall was built! They have malls so massive that Mall of Emirates has a Ski Jump area and the main attraction at Dubai Mall was a HUGE aquarium!

We move on to Istanbul, where I was lucky to be able to visit the Grand Bazaar! It was Pashmina haven and strangely enough, I was surrounded by so much imitation goods! There were Gucci, LV, Prada and Chanel handbags all over the place! Prices were comparable but the quality was lacking. I'd seen better replicas in my travels. SO while I didn't spend on clothes, I managed to get Iranian Saffron and Caviar to indulge in.

Finally, I get to travel back to my hometown, the land of Borneo, where I got my much needed RnR. Also walking around the bazaars, I found a new shop selling native art and wares, I think i will always be intrigued at how extravagant our native costumes were and till today are. Couldn't help but take some pictures! Thats my tribal pride talking.

Observations and Follies

The morning was running all in schedule.
From the moment i jumped off the tram, Ness's cab was at the front store.
We did the moment girly giggles with excitement from her latest stock purchase.

Off course, famished from the excitement.
We OooOOED & Ahhhhh'd the yummy brekkie
that Hot Poppy's provided for us.

Sitting on the Sky bus , We were off for the much anticipated trip.
After, a short nap , a train ride and a short 5 Min's walk from
Wyn yard to Travel Lodge. We were ready for our expo.

A very short/long walk by the harbour.
We were in and ready to be labelled as professionals,
very young professionals .

Reactions: Complete awe and amazed at the array of
accessories, the number of retailers and shop fittings.
It was pure ecstasy , having to be a part of this.

Tummy tales: We were fed for an early dinner, with
A Fishermen's Basket,Oysters, Mussels & Steamed Veges.
Being a glut and greedy, we even squeezed in a moment of
Lindt Ice Cream :)

Tuesday comes--> We were both up and running with happy
pies for breakfast which made Ness's day. Then huddled in for
a seminar which had great pointers regarding the business.
The whole day ran in a tight schedule from one retailer to the other,
with mini catwalk stops and suppliers. Definately needed the 2 whole
days for this.

* Made a pit stop for the Sydney, Opera House. ha ha I just had to squeeze
a moment of architectural history in this trip. Basically, we both had a great
trip down to Sydney :)

Bizarre note: Sydney people must be in love with clock's because there's one
in every corner, The city seems like a mild version of New York with all high rises,
people are always jay walking because the traffic crossing is so slow to tick to the
green walking man & there seems to be no rubbish bins anywhere.

Direct from the BIG APPLE...

( This was the nasty weather I had to endure the first 2 days!)

So, its my last day in the Big Apple, and this is my first post for the blog. In the days leading up to the soft launch, we're both extremely excited and there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.

After finally tabulating our stash for the soft launch, we have about 200 items all specially chosen for its uniqueness and its practicality, I've met some nice people along the way and have learnt so much from them. Most the people I've met have either ties with the fashion industry or work in the fashion industry. Its such an eye opener.

We now have a great stash of true blue vintage from the 80's now including a gorgeous Badgley Mischka suit in an amazing shade of Red Wine w/Rhinestone buttons, a fab Sequinned bustier from Oleg Cassini, another FULLY Sequinned gown from Oleg Cassini (which i am going to find hard to let go), numerous suits from UNGARO and these are just to name a few.

In lieu with the cold weather thar we're expecting in Melbs I've also start shopping for some professional work wear. These include Armani pinstripe pants, some nice corduroy items, below the knee skirts which would look amazing with a turtleneck and knee hi boots.

I would love to post some pictures of the clothes, but these are all teasers and you have to visit the store to check out the stash! I can't wait to be back in Melbourne!!!

Weather: rather gloomy & chilly

The new display is up with back to school layout and glamour.

A little hint to the l'oreal Melbourne fashion week that is coming up on the

15-22nd March 2009. However, we are all excited for the Soft Launch on the 14th of

March , Saturday.(displayed above is our own invites to the lovely day) Hoping to

get an introduction with the local community in North Melbourne.
